Charity of the year
Each financial year the Club chooses a local Charity to support through fundraising activities which take place throughout the year. In 2014/15 we donated over £2200 to Walsall Heart Care. In 2015/16 and 2016/17 we have been fundraising for 2 areas of Community First Responders, Featherstone & District CFR and FastAid Black Country CFR, both of whom respond to emergency calls in the areas where most of our members live. Over the two years we have donated £4000 to Community First Responders.
This year the Club has chosen to support Canine Partners via the Midlands Training Centre based in Leicestershire. This is a charity which transforms the lives of disabled people from all walks of life, including the Armed Forces. The dogs are provided free of charge and are specifically trained to meet the individual needs of each person and can work with the most complex disabilities.
Our first Quiz Night for 2 years was held on Saturday 19 November and we had almost 90 people enjoying a quiz and a hot pork bap buffet, which proved very popular. Profit from the ticket sales was £176, and profit from the raffle was £151, giving us a total of £327 raised for our charity, Canine Partners. We were delighted that a representative of the Charity came along and joined in the event. We hope to hold another fund raising event in the New Year.
